Fitness Inspiration - Bring on the Battle!

At this time of year many of us are struggling with our New Year's resolutions. Maybe you joined a gym, bought a home gym, or just decided to eat healthier in an effort to slim down. Maybe you're doing all three! It doesn't matter. The point is this. We're approaching the middle of the second month of 2014 and you're starting to lose interest in your weight loss goals right? It happens every year for most individuals. So how do you maintain focus and avoid sliding back into a sedentary life? There are several things we can do.

First, don't be to hard on yourself if you have a minor setback. If you're out for the night and a have a couple of drinks don't sweat it. We all need  a break once in a while. Fitness goals often fail because we become too rigid. We feel like we're punishing ourselves, so we just give up. Don't! In fact go ahead and schedule a day off once in a while. It will help you to refocus, and you won't become as easily discouraged.

The second thing is not to become discouraged if the scale isn't moving fast enough for your liking. If you remain committed to a healthy lifestyle, you will see results over time. Concentrate on feeling better about yourself. You will notice all those little niggling aches and pains start to fade, you will breathe better, and you will have more energy. The rest will come with time.

Finally, I suggest keeping yourself busy doing things you like. Avoid thinking about food all the time. We all have our interests. Myself, I like to read, write, play the guitar, and exercise. It doesn't matter what you choose, just keep yourself busy and you won't worry about going hungry. You really do have to keep yourself in the right state of mind.

So keep going. Don't give up. This year can be different than the others. Don't worry about those that drop the snide remarks. Yes, you may have tried before and failed, but that's in the past don't dwell on it. We can't change it, so why worry about it? What do you think? Is this your year?
